Cala Luna’s founders, Antonio Pilurzu and Grietje and Els Depypere, long dreamed of having a hotel in an enchanted locale. After many happy years of living in Sardinia on a beautiful island in the south of Italy, they decided to pursue new horizons, and traveled to Costa Rica. There they rented a car and for several months traveled the length of the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, finally deciding on Playa Langosta, Tamarindo, as the ideal site for their new hotel.
More than 12 years ago they founded the Hotel and Villas Cala Luna, whose name is inspired by the Bahia de la Luna (Moon Bay) in Sardinia. They planted a wealth of native trees on the largely scrubby terrain, dotted with only a few Guacimo trees, and little by little cultivated the natural paradise it is today.
The focus from the outset was to provide outstanding hospitality as a boutique hotel (also known as a designer or lifestyle hotel), offering guests a unique and more personalized level of care than the typical large, corporate chain hotel. Whether rustic or luxurious, the distinguishing mark of a boutique hotel is its attentive and excellent service, providing guests with a tailored and unforgettable experience.
As with most boutique hotels, Cala Luna offers intimate gathering spaces for events, in highly original and individual settings. When a guest arrives at the Cala Luna Boutique Hotel, Villas and Spa, they will find themselves at home, with our staff striving to ensure every comfort is provided, every detail perfect.
We pride ourselves on offering the perfect marriage of service and design. We know that the key to our success lies in the people who work every day to make you feel at home. With more than 60 staff throughout the complex, return guests will be sure to see some familiar face.
