The beautiful country of Costa Rica is full of endless possibilities. Locals boast a colorful culture and the surrounding landscape is awe-inspiring with breathtaking views of lush jungles, colossal volcanoes and pristine beaches. With so much of nature to explore, Costa Rica is perfect for adventurous travelers. Courtesy of Cala Luna Boutique Hotel in Costa Rica, these are the top five ways to have some fun while still enjoying nature’s beauty.

1. Ziplining Through the Jungle

The Monkey Jungle Canopy Tour past downtown Tamarindo can be accessed by a dirt road and a 15 minute drive. The ziplining “office” more closely resembles an ancient building nestled in the jungle than any modern office. There you’re greeted warmly by staff members who instantly feel like friends who want to have a good time.

The staff members guide visitors on quads to the top of a hill where the view of the tamarindo bay and forests pans out and is in itself worth the journey. After a quick safety briefing, guests are strapped into harnesses and sent down the first line.

Seven ziplines total will send you soaring through the jungle past howler monkeys, butterflies and tropical birds. The last ride is a “Tarzan” swing and at the end the staff treats you to fresh pineapple slices.

2. Beginner Surf Lessons

There’s no need to be an expert to take to the waves and get up on a surfboard. Cala Luna Surf Academy will train you on the spot and provide all the gear necessary to get started.

The academy offers pick ups from the Cala Luna Boutique Hotel to the beach location. Unbelievably friendly staff will make anyone feel comfortable and at ease as they lay out the boards on the beach and demonstrate the correct form, body mechanics and timing to catch a wave.

After they do a group demonstration, they give short personal lessons. Once they see you’ve mastered the “dry run,” you are off to the water!

3. Horseback Ride to La Senda Labyrinth

Grab a ride to La Senda Ranch, then walk or travel by horseback to the La Senda Labyrinth. The labyrinth is a maze bordered by over 4,000 towering cacti, some of which are over 10 feet tall! The natural wonder is the only double circle labyrinth in the world and is designed with “sacred geometry.”

According to La Senda’s website, the labyrinth designer used the number three as his inspiration, “uniting the two opposing centers, the feminine and the masculine, into a third center, the Vesica Piscis, the point of creation.”

With sunlight filtering in between cactus plants, butterflies circling around, and hawks soaring high in the distance, the walk through the peaceful labyrinth is sure to instill a feeling of serenity.

4. Explore the Ocean

There’s more to do in the ocean than enjoy the beach and soak up the sun.

Tamarindo beach is a great spot for everything from swimming to snorkeling and deep sea fishing. Through Cala Luna Boutique Hotel, you can kayak out to Captain Island in front of Tamarindo beach with a guide and see the amazing tropical fish that inhabit the water.

If you prefer to stay above water, Tamarindo Fishing Tours offers deep sea fishing adventures. Take a boat out into the ocean and learn how to fish alongside a guide while also learning about the marine life varieties in the Costa Rican waters.

5. Sunset beach dinner

After all the day’s adventures, slow things down with a relaxing view of the sunset silhouetted by distant sailboats over a candlelit dinner.

At Tamarindo beach right near volcanic rock and tide pools, surrounded by elegant tiki torches, relax and enjoy a full course meal and smooth wine. There’s no better way to end an exciting day in the ever beautiful Costa Rica.
